The dream team behind Bocca and Burrata, Restauranteur Neil Grant and Head Chef Annemarie Steenkamp opened up their third restaurant. Open Door in the space formerly occupied by the River Café at Constantia Uitsig. Open Door is proud to have Executive Chef Evan Coosner recently join their team.

Constantia’s history dates back to 1685 when Simon van der Stel named his property after the daughter of the benefactor who granted him a farm nestled beneath a picturesque mountain range. The lush setting and moderate temperatures bode well for farming and van der Stel set to work planting orchards and vineyards.

Constantia is thus the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere – with an uninterrupted history of wine making that spans over 300 years.

Once the setting for some of the Cape’s most loved and respected restaurants, as well as a popular Hotel and Spa, Constantia Uitsig’s brand-new restaurant, swung wide its doors in June 2015. Having renovated the old River Café premises, the new restaurant lives up to its name – offering a far more open-plan space, that at once feels both familiar and yet altogether fresh.

With a modern contemporary feel and menu, Open Door offers breakfast, lunch and dinner except for Sunday, only open for breakfast and lunch.

Burrata is located in Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill. Offering Italian-inspired fare with a flair for the exciting and unexpected, this restaurant offers interesting mains and handcrafted pizzas of the highest quality as well as a superbly appointed wine list.

Burrata’s attention to detail is also the focal point of the restaurant. The pizza oven was hand built by a third-generation family-owned business in Naples.

This oven is able to reach higher temperatures than the average pizza oven, which means every pizza turned out by Burrata is delicious and cheesy – bubbling with taste and moisture and almost impossible to resist.
